Team Bio
Leigh’s passion for the broadcast industry is infectious, and she uses the knowledge she has cultivated working with newsroom managers to advance your career. Her goal is for others to find the joy this industry brought her.
At 16 years old, Leigh Spann wrote an article in a national publication about becoming a broadcast journalist. At that time, her passion for public speaking took her across the country speaking to thousands of her peers about leadership development. But Leigh had another passion, science. When graduation time came, she realized if she became a broadcast meteorologist, she would combine both passions. That’s what she did.
For nearly 25 years, Leigh used her atmospheric science background to make a forecast and her public speaking background to bring that forecast to viewers in a way that was entertaining and understandable. She started her career at WMAZ in Macon, GA, spent a few years at WCBD in Charleston, SC and 17 years at WFLA in Tampa, FL. While she’s known for her cheerful delivery to help viewers start their day, the community also turned to her when hurricanes and tornadoes threatened. She earned Emmy awards for her team’s Hurricane Preparedness specials.
Along the way, she has helped other meteorologists learn the craft, and she takes pride in watching the people she mentors succeed.
Leigh graduated Magna Cum Laude with the Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia. She earned the Atmospheric Science certificate from UGA, and she still cheers loudly for her Georgia Bulldogs.
